Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release

The Ohio Valley Greyhounds of United Indoor Football (UIF) will look to get their first victory of the season in Peoria as the Greyhounds take on the Rough Riders this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:05 PM EST.

Ohio Valley has lost its last two games by a combined 7 points. Last week the Greyhounds fell to Ft. Wayne 37-32. Ft. Wayne is considered to be one of the best teams in the UIF, but Ohio Valley played them to their closest game of the year. Matt Kohn led the Greyhounds with 16-of-29 passing for 114 yards and one touchdown. He also scrambled four times for 40 yards. Derrick Stickles scored on a 51-yard kick-off return to tie the game at 20-20 with 11:59 to play. Stickles accounted for 139 all-purpose yards vs. Ft. Wayne.

Greyhounds Head Coach Mike Blackburn says he saw lots of positive things over the last couple of weeks. "While you never like to start out 0-3, I have seen a huge improvement in both the offense and defense over the past couple of weeks," said Blackburn. We played two of the best defenses in the league with Lexington and Ft. Wayne on the road and our offense gave them a real test. We hung right with them, and while we bent a little bit, we did not break"

Many Greyhounds players are among the league leaders in several categories. For the season, wide receiver James Taylor is leading the UIF in receptions with 21. Stickles is 5th in the UIF in rushing yards with 84 on the season and 6th in kickoff return yardage with 157. Kohn has the 3rd best passing yardage total with 443.

Linebacker Brock Dodrill had 12 tackles against Ft. Wayne and is currently 2nd in the UIF in tackles with 24 as he leads the Greyhound defense that has allowed the 5th least point per game in the UIF with 37.0.

We have top-notch players at most of the skill positions and I am very proud of their performances against some excellent teams. We are making a few adjustments which we think will result in a series of victories in the coming weeks," continued Blackburn.

Peoria (0-2) is giving up the most points in the league at 54.0 per game. Linebacker Blue Aldridge leads the team defensively and is number 10 in the UIF in tackles with 15.5. Wide receivers Kieth Herron and Ashlee Frazier are both in the top 20 for receptions in the UIF.

The Greyhound team is definitely coming together at all of the positions and we look forward to going to Peoria this week-end and coming back with a victory as we head into 2 home games with Bloomington and Sioux Falls on April 22nd and April 29th in the friendly confines of WesBanco Arena.", added Blackburn.

The Greyhounds return home on April 22 when the Bloomington Extreme travel to Wheeling. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 PM. Tickets may be purchased at the Wesbanco Arena Box Office, the Ohio Valley Greyhounds office or by calling (304) 233-4470.
