Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
The Ohio Valley Greyhounds today announced the signing of (5) five new players to their roster prior to the home game against the River City Rage on Saturday April May 12th. . All of today's announced players will be new to the Greyhound organization. The new signings include Quarterback, Oscar Davenport; Defensive Back Robert Mason; Defensive Back/Linebacker Jeff Candler; Defensive Back/Kick Return specialist Dawan Gentry; and Defensive Back/Linebacker Jamond Davis.
" I am pleased to be announcing the signing of these five talented ballplayers that will be coming on to help us at a variety of positions", said Ervin Bryson, Greyhounds Head Coach. "This group of guys have excelled where ever they have played, several of them have experience at the professional level, and can play on both sides of the ball. We have identified some weaknesses in our roster at a couple of key positions that have led to a slow start for us for 2007. We are committed to changing that immediately and these signings will make us very solid at those key positions as we enter the second half of our season and our run for the play-offs. This upcoming game against the River City Rage on Saturday should reflect a major difference in our performance on both sides of the ball.", Bryson continued.
The Hounds will be playing the River City Rage at WesBanco Arena Saturday night May 12th at 7:00 pm. This is the first ever meeting between the two teams as the Rage is in its first year with the United Indoor Football League, having played for three years previously in another professional Indoor League. The Rage, located in St. Charles, MO., a suburb of St. Louis, come into the game with a 5-2 record hoping to break a 2-game losing streak. The Hounds are at 1-5 wanting this win to break their own 3 game losing streak. The Hounds are definitely looking to turn the season around for the second half of the season beginning with this game.
" While needless to say, I am disappointed with our start to the 2007 season at 1-5, I am confident that we have the talent to complete with any team in this league", said Lou Stein, Greyhound Owner. "We have lost several of our games by beating ourselves with mental errors including penalties, special teams breakdowns, and at times, a lack of focus and intensity. I believe that the adjustments we are currently making in both personnel and game schemes will put the Greyhounds into the heart of the play-off race during the second half of the season. We are now taking one game at a time and treating it with the importance of a play-off game. I am seeing the Hounds practicing with a lot more emotion and intensity and this will translate into much better play and execution in our upcoming games," continued Stein.
