UIF Week Three Player of the Week Awards Announced
April 12, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
Omaha, NE - United Indoor Football (UIF) is pleased to announce the Week 3 awards for Player of the Week. All three players broke a record of some kind in the UIF. Rocky Harvey of the Ft. Wayne Freedom was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week, while the Omaha Beef once again claimed two awards for the second week in a row. Chris Eads pulled off back-to-back stellar performances on defense to claim Defensive Player of the Week for a second time this season and teammate, Ted Retzlaff was given the award for Special Teams.
Rocky Harvey led the Freedom to their third straight victory and broke the UIF single game rushing record in the process. Harvey ran for an amazing 171 yards from 31 carries, on a 50-yard field! This breaks last seasons league MVP, Freddy Jackson's previous record of 168 yards, which came in the last game of the season in United Bowl I. Jackson now plays for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. Harvey crossed the goal line 4 times (3 in the third quarter) and also gained another 11-yards receiving off of two catches. Rocky led his team 37-32 over the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (0-3) this past Saturday and will take on the Bandits at the Tyson's Event Center in Sioux City, IA in Week 4 action.
Linebacker, Chris Eads, has taken the Defensive Player of the Week for a second week in a row. This is the first time in the UIF that a player has been awarded this in back-to-back weeks. Eads led the Beef defense to a 75-34 victory on Sunday afternoon after he made 5 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 1 interception for 6-yards and one fumble recovery for one yard and the touchdown. The Beef's defense accounted for 18 of the 75 points scored for the Beef. As a team they recovered 2 fumbles and made 4 interceptions.
Rounding out the Week 3 awards is another Beef player, Ted Retzlaff. Ted connected on 9 of 9 PAT's and 4-5 field goals (29, 17, 46, 45-yards.) This accounted for 21 points in Sunday's game and breaks the single game record for points scored kicking in a single game (old record was 19 by Sioux Falls Storm kicker, Adam Hicks.) Ted also tied the record for most PAT's made in a single game. Retzlaff received the Player of the Week award twice last season and also was named the Special Teams Player of the Year in 2005. The 75 points that the Beef scored on Sunday ties the Lexington Horsemen for the most points scored in one game by a team. You can catch the Beef in action this Saturday when they travel to Lexington to battle the Horsemen in Rupp Arena.
