Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
The Ohio Valley Greyhounds professional indoor football team has introduced a new logo and slogan to generate enthusiasm for the upcoming season. The new logo design shows a more tenacious, sharper drawn and aggressive portrayal of the Greyhound mascot, utilizing an easier to read typestyle. The new logo will be used on all Greyhound materials and merchandise. "The logo now looks more like our style of play, clean yet forceful," said new owner Lou Stein. "It's also professional, easy to read, and more graphically stylized so we can use it in all applications without problems." "We're getting up and running for the 2006 season and the new logo and slogan are part of a new, aggressive approach to the upcoming season," Stein said. Stein commissioned professional graphic designer Art Mancuso to create the new logo. Mancuso has been doing award-winning design work in the Ohio Valley for more than thirty years. "I've worked with Lou on many projects and was particularly excited to help on this one," Mancuso said. "The Greyhounds are a great resource for the Ohio Valley and designing this was a privilege." Mancuso said that his approach was to give the design more graphic integrity and to make it more in keeping with the nature of the product offering and the direction of the new ownership. "Purebred Excitement!" is the slogan that will be used in all marketing and advertising for the team. Stein says that the slogan represents both the tradition and energy that the team has been known for. "We wanted something that would capture what our organization and the game experience is about," Stein said. "Our team has a winning, professional pedigree, so we are purebred. Anyone who has ever attended our games knows what an exciting brand of football this is." The new slogan was developed by Dick Dixon, long time professional writer and marketing communications consultant from Weirton, WV. Dixon is owner of The Dixonary, a marketing communications resource and does advertising and other writing for companies all over the world. "Dick came up with hundreds of ideas based on different criteria which we provided," Stein said. "We narrowed the list down to âPurebred Excitement', since it just seemed to play on the major ideas of a tradition of excellence, professional attitude and the pure, unadulterated excitement that occurs in every game." Dixon has worked with Stein on past projects. He said he took on the project because he could see how much fun it would be. "Art Mancuso and I have worked together on hundreds of projects over the years and when I heard that former client, Lou Stein had bought the team, I thought it would be great fun to be involved in some way," Dixon said. "Lou had great input; I played around with many different ideas, and the one he selected seems to really capture the spirit of the team and the organization." Stein purchased the Greyhound franchise from former owner George Kellas in November of last year. The team had been up for auction on eBay when Stein became aware of it. He contacted Kellas, and they worked out an agreement for Stein to purchase the team. "I have been a huge Greyhound fan and season ticket holder for seven years" Stein said. "I purchased this team because I did not want to see it leave the Ohio Valley, and I felt this franchise could become a great economic development and entertainment resource for the entire area. This team has a proven history of success. Over the past seven years, the Greyhounds have won 6 Conference Championships and 2 National Championships, continued Stein. The Greyhound management team is planning new events and activities to surround the game this season. They have announced that prior to all home games this year, ticket holders will be welcome Free of Charge to attend pre-game Tail Gate Parties which will begin in the afternoon at Wesbanco Arena prior to each game. These parties will feature activities for the entire family including top-notch live entertainment from around the region, a pre-game pep rally, fun play activities for the kids, face painting for adults & children, photo ops with Blitz the Mascot and other special guests, and lots of other unannounced prizes and surprises. During the Tail Gate Party a unique menu of tailgate food and beverages will be available for purchase. Stein said that his new management will be marketing this team regionally to include the entire Ohio Valley area. "We want to be the Ohio Valley's team," Stein said. âWe want the Greyhounds to be an exciting resource for people from within a hundred mile radius and we will be promoting the team to achieve that goal. The Ohio Valley Greyhound's first game of the 2006 season will be Friday, March 24 against the Lexington Horsemen at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. The home opener will be Sunday, April 2 against the Evansville Blue Cats at Wesbanco Arena. Kick-off for the Evansville game will be at 6:30 p.m. Season tickets for the seven game home schedule are now available and range in price from $63 to $175. Single game tickets range in price from $10 to $25.
