Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB - Ridly Greig turned on the afterburners late in the third period to propel the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 3-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday night.
The Ottawa Senators prospect scored twice in just over six minutes, as the Wheat Kings earned their fourth consecutive victory after an elongated nine-day layoff.
"I'm happy with our group tonight," said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. "Once we got behind, we stayed with it and got a huge goal from Rids to get us back into it. It was a good win against a really good Red Deer team. That is a solid team victory."
The Wheat Kings welcomed back 2,661 fans back into Westoba Place (50% capacity) for the first time since December 27th, a fact not lost on the Wheat Kings young team.
"The fans were great tonight," said Nate Danielson. "It was nice to get back into our home routine. This was real fun for all of us and a great home ice win."
Danielson, who was credited with the game winner has now registered up six points (3G-3A) in his last three games and five points (1G-4A) in his last two games vs his hometown Rebels.
The Wheat Kings improved their record to 21-14-2-2. Since December 3rd, the Wheat Kings have just one regulation loss (12-2-2-1).
"Honestly, it's been tough not knowing when or where we are playing," added Danielson. "We're lucky to be here with everything going on in the world. We have come and worked hard everyday, through all of this and its paid off."
Ethan Kruger kicked aside 27 shots, earning his 15th win of the season. The Sherwood Park, AB native has not lost in regulation since December 10th and has given up just one goal in his last 120+ minutes of hockey.
Brandon's busy week continues, with a quick road trip to Winnipeg on Thursday to take on the ICE before returning home to meet the Swift Current Broncos on Friday.
"Winnipeg is a good team," said MacGillivray. "We will have to be at our very best on Thursday. If we play the way we are capable and do the right things for 60 minutes we will give ourselves a chance to win."
You can catch both games this week on Bounce 96.1 and the iHeartRadio App starting with the pre-game shows at 6:45.
