CARY, N.C. - Carolina midfielder Gregory Richardson was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 15, the USL-1 announced Tuesday.

Richardson scored the first goal of Friday's 2-1 win over Vancouver at WakeMed Soccer Park in his official debut with the RailHawks.

"He did well in that game. He scored a goal, but he also put them on their back foot and put them under pressure a lot," said Carolina coach Martin Rennie. "I think he's capable of doing that again and scoring more goals. He's not quite match fit yet, so as he continues to work on that, he'll get better."

Richardson is the 13th different RailHawk to make a Team of the Week this season, and he is the 13th different member of the team to score at least one goal in 2009.

Richardson's acquisition has paid immediate dividends. After he was waived by the Colorado Rapids on June 26, he was on trial with the RailHawks the following week. He played 45 minutes of Carolina's 3-0 win over Wilmington on July 3, wreaking havoc down the left flank the entire time and setting up the RailHawks' first goal.

He signed with the team the following week.

In his debut on Friday, Richardson was a menace attacking from the left wing once again. As the match headed toward halftime scoreless, Richardson took a ball from John Cunliffe. He went one-v-one with and beat defender Wes Knight to the endline, then flung a ball toward the goal. It took a deflection off Vancouver defender Marco Reda and then snuck past goalkeeper Jay Nolly for the game's first goal.

Richardson and the RailHawks return to action with two games this weekend. On Friday, they will face the Charleston Battery in Charleston at 7:30 p.m. and come back to Cary to face Miami FC on Sunday at WakeMed Soccer Park at 2 p.m.
