Greenville Snaps Two-Game Winning Streak With 4-2 Loss to Carolina

Greenville, SC- Carolina handed Greenville a 4-2 loss Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium. Trevor Hutchinson (W; 6-6) threw eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out six. Ryan Minor went 2-for-4 with a double, homerun and two-RBI.

The G-Braves scored first, tallying one run in the bottom of the first. Kelly Johnson doubled to open the frame and was driven in on a fielder's choice by Andy Marte off Hutchinson.

Carolina responded in the top of the second. With one-out, Jason Stokes cranked his 19th homer of the season off Zach Miner to center field, tying the score 1-1.

The Mudcats claimed the lead in the seventh. Rob Ryan reached base on an error and scored as Minor doubled off the left-center field wall off Sean Fesh (L; 0-1).

Greenville tied the score at 2-2 as Kelly Johnson smacked a one-out solo homerun off Hutchinson in the bottom of the seventh.

Carolina added a run in the top of the eighth on two infield errors and a sacrifice fly off Jeff Inglin's bat.

For insurance purposes, the Mudcats recorded another run in the ninth. Fesh hung an off-speed pitch and Minor roped the ball over the right field wall for his third homerun of the season.

Greenville was shutdown in the ninth as Randy Messenger (S; 12) allowed only one hit to pick up his twelfth save of the season.

Thursday night, Greenville hosts Carolina at Municipal Stadium beginning at 7:15. Starting pitchers are Greenville righthander Izzy Pineda (4-6; 4.63) and Carolina righthander Nic Ungs (5-7; 4.63).
