
Ozzie Smith Appearance Headlines Upcoming Diamond Jaxx Events

The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx and Ashley Furniture Home Store have announced that baseball Legend and former Cardinal great Ozzie Smith will make a stop at Pringles Park on Monday, August 9th. Gates will open at 6:00 PM for the 7:05 PM game.
Ozzie Smith will be brought to Pringles Park through a partnership with Ashley Furniture Home Store and is scheduled to throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch prior to the game with the Huntsville Stars before greeting and signing autographs for 125 randomly selected fans. Another 50 randomly selected fans will receive pre-signed Ozzie Smith Autographs during the game. In addition, Ashley Furniture Home Store will host a pre-game Private Reception with Ozzie Smith. Fans can go to Ashley Furniture in Jackson (1096 Vann Dr.) to enter to win tickets to the Private Reception (250 tickets to be given away), tickets to the game (750 tickets to be given away), as well as a room full of Ashley Furniture.
When asked about Ashley Furniture Home Store's involvement with the Ozzie Smith appearance, Shawn Roberts (Store Manager) replied, "It's a pleasure to bring in Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith to West Tennessee. This is one way to thank the community for supporting our business."

*Diamond Jaxx Eight Game Homestand Began July 27*
The Diamond Jaxx are currently playing in their third to last homestand of the 2004 season at Pringles Park. The first four games of the homestand pit the Diamond Jaxx against the Huntsville Stars (until July 30) and then the Diamond Jaxx will face the Mobile BayBears (July 31-August 3).
Come out to Pringles Park on July 29th as we celebrate Jimmy Buffet Night. In addition, because it will be Thirsty Thursday, fountain drinks and draft beer will be buy one (1), get one (1) free.
For the final game with the Stars, the first 1,000 fans to enter Pringles Park on Friday, July 30, will receive a free Diamond Jaxx T-Shirt featuring Ribbee courtesy of the Diamond Jaxx and E+ Broadband. After the game, kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and you can win great prizes to benefit the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation with the Ball Launch.
Saturday, July 31st, will mark the first game of the last series with the Mobile BayBears at Pringles Park during the 2004 season. Be sure to not miss this game as there will be a lot of fun activities for the whole family. Before the game, the first 500 children that attend the Diamond Jaxx game with a parent will receive a free book and the first 1,000 fans will take home ELBie's "The Gamme." In addition, there will be a pre-game Diamond Jaxx autograph session for members of Ribbee's Cubs, we will celebrate Ribbee's Birthday Party and have Mascot Mania. After the game, there will be a fireworks spectacular courtesy of JEA and WBBJ. If that's not enough, as part of WLJT Family Night at Pringles Park, Clifford the Big Red Dog will also be present to meet and greet Diamond Jaxx fans in attendance.
The excitment of Diamond Jaxx baseball continues with a 6:05pm (CST) game versus the BayBears on Sunday, August 1st and Monday, August 2nd.
To close out the homestand, not only will August 3rd be Two for Tuesday at Pringles Park, it will be Fat Tuesday as well as we celebrate Mardi Gras.

*Diamond Jaxx on a Roll at Pringles Park*
The Diamond Jaxx followed the All-Star Break with an impressive four game series with the Mobile BayBears.
In the first game of the series, Mike Dzurilla hit a one out, game winning solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Diamond Jaxx a thrilling 3-2 come from behind win over the BayBears on July 19th.
Dzurilla sent the 1,810 fans home happy with a home run off Mobile reliever R.D. Spiehs. The Diamond Jaxx had tied the game against Spiehs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two out RBI triple by Richard Lewis, scoring Ronny Cedeno.
Jermaine Van Buren picked up the win by pitching a perfect ninth inning, striking out the side. Van Buren and Ryan O'Malley combined to throw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Starter Ricky Nolasco, who held Mobile hitless for the first four innings, gave up two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
On July 16th, the Diamond Jaxx doubled up Mobile 6-3 for their sixth straight win at Pringles Park.
Left-hander Carmen Pignatiello pitched seven strong innings to get the victory. Pignatiello gave up two unearned runs on four hits and struck out a season high eleven batters in the win.
Mobile took a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to two Diamond Jaxx errors. Marcus Nettles drove home two runs with a one out single to give the BayBears the early lead. The Diamond Jaxx cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second on a single by Geovany Soto.
The Diamond Jaxx took the lead for good in the third inning. Richard Lewis tied the game with an RBI single. Two batters later, Matt Craig hit a three run homer to give the Diamond Jaxx a 5-2 lead. Soto's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning upped the lead to 6-2.
Mobile scored a run in the eighth inning off reliever Russ Rohlicek on a sacrifice fly by Greg Sain. Mobile sent the tying run to the plate in the ninth against closer Jermaine Van Buren, but Van Buren struck out Josh Barfield on three pitches to save the game for Pignatiello.
The Diamond Jaxx were looking for a sweep of the BayBears on Sunday, July 17, but instead split the doubleheader with the BayBears, winning the first game 8-1 and dropping the nightcap 2-0.
In the opener, Mobile took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning only to see the Diamond Jaxx score seven runs to take the lead and blow the game open. Mike Dzurilla and Mike Mallory drove in two runs each while Aron Weston drove in a run in the seven run inning. Weston finished the night 3-4 with two RBI's. Dzurilla went 2-2 with a pair of RBI's as well.
Bobby Brownlie picked up the win, allowing a run on four hits in five innings of work. He was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning trailing 1-0 when the Diamond Jaxx exploded for the seven runs.
Alan Webb took the loss for Mobile. He came into the game having only given up one run in his last 21 1/3 innings of work. He gave up five runs on four hits in just 2/3 of an inning.
The nightcap was a different story as Clay Hensley pitched a complete game shutout for the BayBears as they salvaged the final game of the series. Hensley was brilliant as he limited the Diamond Jaxx to just four hits while striking out six.
Renyel Pinto took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings of work.
After an off day on the 18th, the Birmingham Barons came to Pringles Park and took advantage of eleven walks, two hit batters, and four errors in the 11-4 victory over the Diamond Jaxx on July 19th.
With the Diamond Jaxx leading 4-1, Birmingham scored eight runs on just two hits in the top of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead. The Diamond Jaxx defense committed three errors in the inning while the pitching staff allowed four walks and two hit batters. Both hit batters came with the bases loaded, driving in two runs.
Jim Bullard pitched 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball out of the bullpen for the victory. Bullard scattered three hits.
Nathan Mitchell took the loss for the Diamond Jaxx. It was a rough night for Mitchell as he gave up five runs (one earned) without retiring a batter. Mitchell gave up one hit and walked three batters. Mike Dzurilla went 2-4 with two RBI's while Matt Craig hit his fifteenth home run of the year to pace the Diamond Jaxx offense.
July 20th at Pringles Park, the Diamond Jaxx bounced back and defeated the Barons 4-3.
The Diamond Jaxx took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Richard Lewis. Birmingham got an RBI double from Tommy Nicholson to tie the game at one in the top of the second. The Diamond Jaxx came right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead. Ronny Cedeno drove in Mike Dzurilla to make it 2-1 then Mike Mallory scored on a passed ball to give the Diamond Jaxx a 3-1 lead.
Nate Murphy hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it a 3-2 game then Murphy tied the game with a RBI fielders choice in the fifth inning. The Diamond Jaxx took the lead for good when Cedeno smacked a two out, sixth inning double up the alley in left-center field, scoring Geovany Soto from first base.
Ricky Nolasco picked up the win, working 6 1/3 innings. He gave up three runs on five hits. Nolasco walked three and struck out seven. Jermaine Van Buren pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up his 18th save of the season.
Brian Anderson hit a two run homer in the top of the seventh inning to put the Barons in front to stay as the Barons defeated the Diamond Jaxx 7-2 on July 21.
Birmingham scored two in the seventh and three runs in the eighth to break open a 2-2 game. Anderson, who drove in another run with a bases loaded walk in the fifth inning, hit his home run off losing pitcher Nathan Mitchell.
The Diamond Jaxx were held to just four hits. Richard Lewis had three of them, including a solo home run in the third inning. Carmen Pignatiello started for the Diamond Jaxx. Pignatiello gave up two runs on five hits in five innings of work. He walked three and struckout nine.
The Diamond Jaxx finished off the homestand on July 22 by crushing the Barons 13-2.
The red hot Mike Dzurilla and Matt Chreighton led the way for the Diamond Jaxx. Dzurilla hammered a three-run triple in the fourth inning and drove in four runs, while Matt Creighton went 4-for-5 with three runs. Matt Craig and Geovany Soto also had multiple RBI.
Bobby Brownlie picked up the win for the Diamond Jaxx. In seven solid innings of work, he allowed just two runs on five hits.
