Greenville Swamp Rabbits forward Jordan Sims tries to get past the Norfolk Admirals goaltender
(Greenville Swamp Rabbits)
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits fired 41 shots towards the Norfolk net, and cut the Admirals' lead to one on two occasions, but the visitors scored a crucial goal in the third period to down the Swamp Rabbits 3-2 on Monday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Domenic Alberga forced a strip steal of J.C. Brassard in the defensive zone, walked in alone and snapped a shot between the pads of Garrett Bartus to put the Admirals up 3-1 with just over 10 minutes to play in the third period.
Greenville found a way to respond on two occasions thanks to the same individual, and both goals came in the third period. Jake Bolton's first blast came just 26 seconds into the third period while down 2-0 after a Norfolk turnover came at the top of the zone, and his slap shot evaded Ty Reichenbach to cut the lead to one.
The goal snapped a streak of 100 minutes and 26 seconds of shutout hockey.
His second came six minutes after Alberga's tally. Tommy Mele won a puck battle in the corner, and fed the puck to the point. Sean Flanagan ferried the puck across to Bolton, who took a few strides from the top of the left circle and fired away to cut the lead to one once again.
Norfolk struck twice quickly in the second period to open the scoring. Luke Nogard scored on his own rebound after a scramble in the Greenville zone to begin the scoring at 1:18, and John Gustafsson scored on the power play to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead. Ben Duffy found space in the left circle and fed it across the seam for the tally.
The Swamp Rabbits return to action on Friday, November 9 to take on the Wheeling Nailers in West Virginia. Catch all of the action on the Swamp Rabbits Broadcast Network.
