February 12, 2021 - NBA G League (G League)
Greensboro Swarm News Release
(ORLANDO, F.L.) - Charlotte Hornets assignment player Vernon Carey Jr. scored a game-high 32 points on 14-of-28 shooting in the Greensboro Swarm's, 130-114, defeat to the Canton Charge (Cleveland Cavaliers affiliate) on Friday at the HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. Carey Jr. also pulled down 13 rebounds for his second double-double as he had 19 points and 11 rebounds against the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks affiliate) on Thursday.
Also on assignment from the Hornets, Jalen McDaniels had 16 points and 15 rebounds off the bench in 36 minutes of action. McDaniels had a game-high 24 points in the Swarm's opener on Thursday. Admiral Schofield (15 points) was the other starter outside of Carey Jr. and McDaniels to score in double figures.
Canton presented a balanced attack with six players scoring in double-digits. The Charge had two players score 20-plus points in Ty-Shon Alexander (24) and Sheldon Mac (23), both doing so off the bench. Devon Dotson had a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists while Levi Randolph scored 18 points to lead Canton's starters.
Canton built an 11-point lead (35-24) after the first quarter and was able to hold the lead throughout. The Charge had success scoring in the paint with 66 of their points coming in that area. As a result of attacking the glass, Canton shot over 50 percent in the game and scored its highest total of the season.
Similar to their opener, the Swarm made several second half pushes to narrow the gap with Canton. Greensboro pulled within five points of the Charge several times but missed shots or untimely turnovers hurt the comeback opportunity.
Other notable efforts from the Swarm were via the reserves. Hornets two-way player Nate Darling made his season debut and scored all 14 of his points in the second quarter, including three 3-pointers. Xavier Sneed added 10 points as well.
Greensboro returns to the court on Sunday, February 14, when they take on the Long Island Nets (Brooklyn Nets affiliate). Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
