Greensboro Swarm Drop Matinee to Ignite

(ORLANDO, F.L.) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, suffered a 122-109 setback to the NBA G League Ignite on Sunday afternoon at AdventHealth Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. The defeat moves the Swarm to 2-5 overall at the single-site.

Greensboro had strong efforts from the Hornets assignment players. In his first game with the Swarm, Nick Richards came off the bench and scored 26 points on 9-for-10 shooting, including two 3-pointers, to go along with 10 rebounds and four blocks in 25 minutes of action. Vernon Carey Jr. secured his fifth double-double after scoring 15 points and snagging 10 rebounds in 29 minutes.

The Ignite (5-2) was led by Isaiah Todd's 23 points off the bench. Jonathan Kuminga (18 points) and Jalen Green (17 points) had strong offensive performances as well. The Ignite shot 53 percent from the field, recording an assist on 34-of-49 baskets. Daishen Nix had a game-high 13 of those assists.

The contest was close in the first half as Ignite held a 63-60 lead at intermission. Kuminga and Todd each scored 11 points, respectively, in the opening two quarters while the Swarm was led by Kobi Simmons (13 points) and Admiral Schofield (11).

However, Greensboro was plagued by second half turnovers which allowed Ignite to build and hold its lead for the victory. The Swarm committed 13 turnovers in the final two quarters which resulted in 15 points for Ignite. Simmons had a strong second half, scoring 14 of his game-high 27 points. He also had 10 assists, earning his first double-double of the season.

Other notable performances came from two-way player Grant Riller (12 points, five assists) and Schofield (11 points, seven rebounds). For Ignite, Amir Johnson (18 points) and Jessie Govan (12 points, five rebounds) had solid contributions.

The Swarm return to the court on Tuesday, February 23, against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets affiliate). The 3:30 p.m. ET tip inside HP Field House will be streamed on ESPN+.
