Indiana Mad Ants News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - For the second straight day, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants registered a double overtime win. On Sunday, it was a 122-117 final over Raptors 905.
Oshae Brissett led Fort Wayne with a season best 28 points, paired with 11 rebounds for his fourth straight double double. Fort Wayne shot a season best 51.6 percent from the floor to Raptors 905's 41.1 percent. The Raptors outrebounded the Mad Ants 56-46.
Amida Brimah recorded Fort Wayne's first six points as he tried to assert his dominance inside early. It helped Fort Wayne to an 12-9 lead as Brissett scored with just over eight minutes to play in the first quarter. Henry Ellenson hit a three pointer on the other end the next time down to tie the game at 12. The two teams would trade the lead for the rest of the quarter with Cassius Stanley's deep two with 3:50 left giving Fort Wayne the lead back again; the Mad Ants extended it to a then quarter high six points with 2:42 to play in the quarter on a Daxter Miles Jr. three ball from the corner.
Raptors 905 had hit their first four three pointers of the game but finished the first quarter 4-of-9 from deep. Fort Wayne led 33-28 after one.
Raptors 905 scored the first six points of the second quarter to pull back ahead on a Gary Payton II breakaway windmill dunk to make it 34-33. Stanley answered on the other end with a three to put Fort Wayne back on top. Fort Wayne would push their lead to seven on multiple occasions in the second, including at the 3:42 mark on another Miles Jr. triple. A Jalen Lecque fast break reverse layup with 3:06 in the third gave Fort Wayne a nine-point lead. Back-to-back Jalen Harris threes under two minutes to play got Raptors 905 back within three, 65-62.
Fort Wayne led 68-64 at the halftime break, going 16-for-22 in the paint. The first half featured eight lead changes and six ties.
A Lecque three pointer with 9:33 to play in the third gave Fort Wayne the first double digit lead of the game at 76-66. The Mad Ants would increase their lead to as many as 12, but Raptors 905 kept fighting back, getting the lead down to three on a couple of occasions including with 26.8 to play in the third on a Matt Mooney three pointer.
A Stanley breakaway score with 8:22 left in the game increased Fort Wayne's lead back to 11 at 100-89. A Harris three with 4:31 to play for Raptors 905 got the game back within four and an Alize Johnson free throw at 4:01 made it 105-103, still in Fort Wayne's favor. Lecque answered back on the other end during the next possession fighting against contact from Ellenson for a basket. But with 2:27 to play, Ellenson's three gave Raptors 905 back the lead at 108-107 for the first time since 10:36 mark of the second quarter. Fort Wayne took a 111-110 lead with 16 seconds to play as Lecque drove to the rim for a finish.
A foul against Devin Robinson with 13.4 seconds left gave Ellenson the chance to complete a three-point play, which he did. With 6.7 seconds left, Josh Gray drove and tied the game at 113 to force overtime.
Mooney drove baseline for a basket to open the overtime session and Brissett answered back with a dunk on the other end. Identical to Saturday's double overtime win, Fort Wayne and their opponent went 2-2 in the first overtime and then the Mad Ants outscored their opponent 7-2 in the second overtime. Fort Wayne pulled ahead for good with Brian Bowen II's free throws with 56.8 to play; Bowen hit five of six free throws in the final minute and he rebounded his only miss himself.
Behind Brissett's season scoring high, Fort Wayne got 20 points from Lecque and 18 from Gray. Brimah scored 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting and added five more blocks to his season total. Fort Wayne also posted team season highs with 30 assists and 12 blocked shots.
Raptors 905 were paced by Ellenson's 26 points and 12 rebounds while Harris added 20. Payton II had 15 points and nine rebounds and Breein Tyree had a game high 10 assists.
