Iowa Chops News Release

Thanks to an overtime winning goal by Josh Green, his team-leading third game-winner of the season, the Iowa Chops survived a furious comeback by the Quad City Flames on Wednesday night to defeat the Flames 4-3 in overtime and maintain their position in 2nd place in the AHL's West Division.

The Chops controlled the 1st period of play outshooting the Flames and getting 1st period goals from Eric Boguniecki (Assists: Josh Green, Matt Beleskey), who smashed home a loose puck at the back post. The Chops made it 2-0 on a power play goal from Drew Miller, who scored his team leading 9th goal of the season with a beautiful give-and-go play with linemates Joakim Lindstrom and Andrew Ebbett. The Flames turned up the heat in the 2nd period, outshooting the Chops 13-4, but the goaltending of JP Levasseur kept the Chops in the lead and the Flames off the scoreboard. Levasseur made two point blank saves on Chris Germyn to send the Chops to the lockerroom with the 2-0 lead. The Chops opened the 3rd period with a goal from Petteri Wirtanen, who used linemate Troy Bodie as a decoy and fired a shot through the legs of Leland Irving for his 4th goal of the season. The Flames stormed back midway through the 3rd period with goal from Dan Ryder and two from Chris Chucko, including one on the power play.

With the game tied, the Chops held the fort until the overtime, when the Chops ended the game :21 seconds in. TJ Trevelyan picked up a pass from Brian Salcido and raced in on a 3 on 2. Using Salcido as a decoy, Trevelyan slid the puck over to a streaking Green, who beat Irving down low for the overtime winner.
