Augusta GreenJackets News Release
North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have announced that two-time World Series Champion Kevin Youkilis will be inducted into the GreenJackets Hall of Fame on Friday, August 10th. The induction ceremony will take place before the game against the Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox) as part of the unveiling of the GreenJackets Hall of Fame at SRP Park
Youkilis played for the GreenJackets from 2001-2002. In 20 games in a GreenJackets uniform, he batted .262 with 6 RBIs. In 2002, Youkilis would be named the Boston Red Sox Minor League Player of the Year.
In his ten seasons in the Major Leagues, Youkilis would spend eight years in Boston, winning two World Series (2004 & 2007), and one season each with both the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees. He would appear in three All-Star Games and win one Gold Glove at first base in 2007. Youkilis would again add to his trophy case by winning the 2008 AL Hank Aaron Award, which is given to the best hitter in each league. Youkilis also holds the AL record for consecutive errorless games at first base (2,002 fielding attempts). In 2018, Youkilis was also inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.
Youkilis adds another name to an already distinguished Augusta GreenJackets Hall of Fame. He joins current Giant players and World Series MVPs Madison Bumgarner (2015 Hall of Fame Inductee) and Pablo Sandoval (2013 Hall of Fame Inductee). Youkilis will join his former Red Sox teammates Tim Wakefield (2013 Hall of Fame Inductee) and Jon Lester (2017 Hall of Fame Inductee). Lastly, he stands besides former manager Roberto Kelly (2016 Hall of Fame Inductee), former owner Bill Heaton (2014 Hall of Fame Inductee), and GreenJackets super fan Stan Swann (2014 Hall of Fame Inductee).
With Kevin Youkilis being nicknamed "The Greek God of Walks," the GreenJackets will be running a special on Walking Tacos for every GreenJackets walk during the game on Friday. Fans will be able to head to McGavins upon a GreenJackets Walk to receive Walking Tacos for only $7 for the rest of the inning! Every Friday at SRP Park is Ladies Night. Ladies Night means that female GreenJacket fans can enter-to-win eight different prizes thanks to the 2018 Ladies Night Partners: Augusta Plastic Surgery Center, Bee Healthy Medical Weight Loss, Jayson Lacy Salon, Oliviana Ristorante, Palm Beach Tan, Pure Barre, The Swank Company and Tin Lizzy's Cantina. The GreenJackets will cap off the night with Moe's Kids Run the Bases for kids 12 & under.
