Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (23-15) shut out the Savannah Sand Gnats for the second straight game with a 3-0 victory on Monday night in Augusta. The GreenJackets now trail the Gnats (24-14) for first place in the SAL Southern Division by just one game.
The Gnats have not scored in the first 27 innings of this series and have been held off the scoreboard for 30 straight innings, their longest scoreless stretch this season.
The GreenJackets handed Savannah starter Mark Cohoon (4-1, 1.94) his first loss of the year in his eighth start.
Augusta scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning when, after a pair of singles, 3B Chris Dominguez stole home.
The GreenJackets added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
In the fifth, with the bases loaded and one out, Cohoon held Augusta to one run, which scored on a sacrifice fly from 1B Luke Anders.
Augusta's final run scored on a wild pitch from Gnats reliever Lance Hoge in the sixth inning to make the score 3-0.
Savannah was held to a season-low two hits in their fourth shutout loss of the year.
Augusta is the only team to shutout the Gnats in 2010, and has now held Savannah off the scoreboard in four of the teams' 10 meetings this year.
SS Wilmer Flores was 0-3 with a walk, halting his hitting streak at 10 games.
It was his second ten-game hitting streak of the year.
Savannah will send RHP Brandon Moore (2-2, 2.52) to the hill Tuesday to try to snap their two game skid against Augusta's RHP Kyle Vazquez (3-1, 6.53) with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm.
The radio broadcast on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 7 pm.
