Greeneville Drops Seesaw Matchup against Princeton, 5-4

PRINCETON - Princeton limited the Greeneville offense to four runs on Sunday afternoon as the Flyboys dropped a 5-4 decision in seven innings against the WhistlePigs at Hunnicutt Field

Greeneville (21-13-1) scored the opening run of the contest for a second consecutive night against the WhistlePigs, but a pair of two-run innings paved the way for Princeton down the stretch.

The Flyboys would take a 1-0 lead as Homer Bush, Jr. reached first following a passed ball on a dropped third strike by the catcher. He scored two batters later from third thanks to a wild pitch from the WhistlePigs.

Princeton answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first as back-to-back doubles made it 2-1 in favor of the WhistlePigs. Greeneville knotted the score in the top of the third innings as Jonathan Hogart delivered a run-scoring single to make it 2-2. Princeton would escape any further damage as Tayler Aguilar attempted to score on the hit but would be thrown out at home.

Both teams continued to trade runs as Princeton regained the lead in the bottom of the third thanks to a run-scoring single from Dylan Rogers. Trailing 3-2, Daylen Reyes recorded his first home run for Greeneville and sent a ball over the wall in left field to knot the score 3-3.

The WhistlePigs delivered the biggest blow of the night in the bottom of the fourth as Princeton plated a pair of runs to take a 5-3 advantage. Nathan Holt provided the eventual game-winning run for Princeton with a sacrifice fly that gave the WhistlePigs a two-run cushion.

Greeneville rallied against the Princeton bullpen in the top of the sixth inning as Eddie Micheletti delivered a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 5-4. The Flyboys would eventually load the bases with just one out in the frame after Reyes was hit by a pitch. Princeton would turn a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning and escape a potentially big inning for Greeneville.

The Flyboys stranded the possible tying run on second in the top of the seventh inning after Bush, Jr. notched an infield single to kick things off for Greeneville. Princeton reliever Zane Probst worked around the jam and recorded back-to-back strikeouts to secure the save and the 5-4 victory for the WhistlePigs.

Luke Russo took the no-decision for Greeneville after allowing three runs through three innings of work. Reliever Zane Robbins suffered his first loss of the season after allowing a pair of runs to score in the fourth inning. Kelyn Fox retired all three batters that he faced in the fifth inning as he made his debut on the mound for Greeneville. Hogart and Reyes finished the contest with two-hit performances at the plate, while Aguilar notched a double for Greeneville.
