River Riders Post Storm Comeback Ends in 7-3 Victory against the Road Warriors

ELIZABETHTON, TN --- The River Riders defeated the Kingsport Road Warriors 7-3 playing as the road team at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark in Elizabethton Saturday night. The game was delayed by a 1:50 weather delay in the top of the third.

The Road Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Both runs were unearned against River Rider starting RHP Manuel Rodriguez.

In the top of the third, with center fielder Logan Sanders at the plate, the game was called into a weather delay lasting an hour and 50 minutes.

When play resumed, left fielder DJ Sullivan hit his third home run of the season to cut the deficit in half 2-1, Road Warriors.

In the top of the fourth inning, right fielder Mario Zabala singled and scored designated hitter Chase Adkison from first. First baseman Eli Young brought Zabala home to give the River Riders a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the fifth, shortstop Marcus Brown doubled and scored Jonathan Soto from first with one out. Brown came around to score from second on a wild pitch, 5-2 Elizabethton.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kingsport scored their final run of the game with an RBI groundout by shortstop Logen Sutton.

In the top of the sixth, Young led off the inning with his third home run of the season. Sanders reached first on an error and scored on a balk, 7-3 River Riders.

The River Riders will continue to play at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark as the road team on Sunday in Elizabethton against the Kingsport Road Warriors. Sunday is Sunday Funday at NCCU Ballpark, kids 12 and younger can run the bases after the game! First pitch is at 5:30! Fans can watch or listen to the River Riders with the links below.
