Greeneville Doubles up Pirates

The Bristol Pirates opened a three-game series at Greeneville with a 12-6 loss on Saturday night for their third loss in a row.

Over their last three games, the Pirates are hitting .211 with no extra-base hits and have been outscored 28-9. Bristol is also hitting 4-for-26 with runners in scoring position during the losing streak, while recording 24 strikeouts to 14 walks.

Roger Santana dropped to 3-2 on the year after allowing a career-high seven runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four over 3 2/3 innings. Will Kobos and Adonis Pichardo combined to allow five runs -- three earned -- on six hits and one walk over the final 4 1/3 innings of the game.

Victor Ngoepe and Dean Lockery were the only Pirates with multiple hits in the loss, combining to go 4- for-10 with an RBI and three runs scored. Mason Martin finished 1-for-3 with a walk to extend his hitting streak to five games -- the longest active streak on the team. Martin has also reached base safely in nine straight games, hitting .333 with a double, four walks, four RBI and six runs scored in that span.

The Pirates (11-13) will look to even the series against Greeneville on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. After the conclusion of this three-game series, the Pirates will have Tuesday off before returning home for their series opener against the Burlington Royals on Wednesday night at 7. Wednesday's game will be Wonderful Wednesday at Boyce Cox Field, with fans receiving $1 off one admission by bringing two canned or boxed food items that will be donated to local area charities.
