TACOMA, Wash. - Nick Green hit a tie-breaking two-run home run, his third home run in two nights, and Cha Seung Baek and two relievers turned in strong pitching performances as the Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Portland Beavers 5-2 Friday night at Cheney Stadium.

Jack Cassel (7-14) allowed five runs and ten hits in seven-plus innings of work to take the loss for Portland, striking out two and walking two.

John Parrish (1-0) gave up a run in 1 2/3 innings of relief but earned the win for the Rainiers in his first Triple-A appearance of the year.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Green drove a home run to left field off Cassel that scored Oswaldo Navarro and gave Tacoma a 3-1 lead they would not surrender.

Ray Chang's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning brought the Beavers to within a run at 3-2, but they would get no closer. Tacoma added two runs in the ninth for the final margin.

Brad Thomas closed out the game with three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out two to earn his second save of the season.

Portland (55-79) took an early one-run lead but could not rally late and dropped their second straight. The Beavers stranded ten men on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings.

Tacoma (63-71) tied the season series between the two teams at seven with the win.

Brian Myrow drove in Portland's first run of the game with an RBI single in the first inning to score Brady Clark. Myrow, Clark, Royce Huffman and Justin Hatcher had two hits apiece and combined for all eight of the Beavers' hits in the game.

The two teams will continue their five-game series on Saturday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: Craig Stansberry left the game in the fifth inning and the Beavers played the final four innings without a designated hitter after Ray Chang, who started as the designated hitter, replaced Stansberry in the field ... Cassel's 14 losses are the most in the PCL ... in nine games against the Beavers this season, Green is15-35 (.429) with 6 home runs and 14 RBIs.
