Green Bay, WI (October 6, 2015) - The excitement of Green Bay Blizzard football is around the corner! The Blizzard will kickoff its 14th season, and 7th in the Indoor Football League (IFL), by hitting the road against the rival Iowa Barnstormers on Feb. 26. That is the first game of a new, 16 game regular season. The home opener will occur a week later, Sunday March 6, against the United Bowl Champion Sioux Falls Storm.
After a Week 3 bye, the Minnesota (formerly Bemidji) Axemen come to the Resch Center on Saturday, March 18th. A stretch of 3 consecutive road games begin on March 26 at Cedar Rapids, April 2 at Nebraska, and April 9 at the Sioux Falls Storm.
The Blizzard return home for four of their next five games on Friday, April 15 to face the expansion Minnesota Havok and the second and final Sunday game of the season will be on April 24 against the Iowa Barnstormers. A quick trip out to battle the Tri-Cities Fever on April 30 and the Blizzard are back at the Resch Center on Friday May 6 against the Nebraska Danger and Friday, May 13th versus the Cedar Rapids Titans.
A two game road trip out to Minnesota sees the Blizzard at the Axemen on May 21 and the Havok on May 28 before the final bye of the season during Week 15.
The final Friday of the season on June 10 welcomes the Tri-Cities Fever to Green Bay. The last road game of the season is in Iowa to face the Barnstormers for the third time on June 18 and Week 18 versus the Wichita Falls Nighthawks on Saturday night, June 25 at the Resch Center caps off the 2016 regular season.
The 2016 IFL season also marks the return of division alignments for each conference. The Blizzard will be playing in the North Division of the United Conference alongside the Iowa Barnstormers and Minnesota Axemen.
Head Coach Tommie Williams returns for his second full season, third overall, and is excited about the 2016 schedule. "2016 is shaping up to be an exciting season. We have a great schedule and look forward to winning our division and competing in the playoffs."
