GREAT FALLS, Mont. (July 8, 2014) -The Great Falls Voyagers withstood a late rally from the Ogden Raptors, kicking off a seven-game homestand with a 3-2 win Tuesday night at Centene Stadium.

The Voyagers (13-9) held a 3-0 lead heading into the ninth, but things got dicey for Great Falls in a hurry. Devan Ahart started the frame by drawing a walk, then Ivan Vela came on and drilled a pinch-hit two-run shot to right to cut the lead to one. The Raptors (7-15) put both the tying and potential go-ahead runs aboard later in the inning, but Jon Bengard buckled down to get the final out and collect his fourth save.

Pitching was the story for most of the night on both sides as Chris Freudenberg (2-2) tossed his second straight quality start, blanking Ogden through six innings of work. The lefty surrendered three hits and struck out five on the night, only running into trouble in the first when he struck out the side to escape a bases loaded jam.

The Great Falls offense got their first run of support for Freudenberg in the third. Hunter Jones drew a walk against Ogden starter Abdiel Velasquez (1-2), then swiped second to give the Voyagers their first runner in scoring position of the evening. Jake Peter took advantage of the situation with two down, singling to the opposite field to make it 1-0.

The score stayed that way until the seventh when the Voyagers added two important insurance runs. Toby Thomas doubled the first run of the frame home, then came around to score himself when Jones singled one batter later.

Great Falls has now won three straight, and maintains their lead in the Pioneer League North Division over the Billings Mustangs heading into Wednesday's action.

The Voyagers and Raptors continue this series Wednesday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls will send right-hander Matt Ball (1-0, 4.00) to the hill, while the Raptors will counter with fellow righty John Richy (0-0, 9.00). First pitch is set for 7:00 and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
