Grant Sets NLL Single-Season Points Record
April 28, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant Jr. recorded his 116th point of the season against the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., setting the National Lacrosse League's single-season record on a goal in the fourth quarter. The 37-year-old surpassed the mark of 115 set by Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares in 2001.
"John has had a truly remarkable season, and I couldn't be more proud of him," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett.
Grant, who broke his own career-best of 111 points (2007) earlier in the night, now owns the league's most prestigious single-season record. He was named the NLL's MVP five years ago, and is widely considered as the front-runner to win the award again.
Earlier this season, Grant recorded the 1,000th point and 500th goal of his storied career. A month ago, he set Colorado's single-season points record, a mark formerly held by lacrosse legend Gary Gait. On Saturday night, the Peterborough, Ontario native put himself in a class all by himself.
"Jr.'s at the top of his game right now," said Govett. "Obviously it's a nice record for him to have, but the Champion's Cup is what he cares about most."
The Mammoth plays host to the Minnesota Swarm next Saturday at 5:30pm MT in the West Division Semifinal of the Champion's Cup Playoffs. Tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by phone at 303.53.HORSE.
