Rochester Knighthawks News Release
It all comes down to one game. Tonight, the Rochester Knighthawks and Philadelphia will learn their East Division playoff seeding on the final day of the regular season.
Rochester (6-9) hosts Philadelphia (7-8) at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. A win by Rochester and the Knighthawks will host the Wings in the Divisional Semifinal Game on Friday, May 4th at 7:30 p.m. A loss and Rochester will travel to Toronto to play the Rock.
The Knighthawks last hosted a playoff game on April 27, 2007 when they defeated the Buffalo Bandits 14-13 in overtime to advance to the NLL Finals.
The game also has playoff implications for the Wings. Philadelphia can clinch a home playoff game with a win, and can capture the East Division title with a win and a Toronto loss to Edmonton. With a victory, Philadelphia would secure its first home game since 2002.
Tonight's game is the third and final regular season meeting between Rochester and Philadelphia. Rochester has won both contests this season, which included an 11-8 victory over the Wings on March 3rd. The K-Hawks won the first game, 22-12, back on January 14th to open the season. The Knighthawks lead the all-time series with a 24-16 record.
The Knighthawks (6-9) enter the week tied for third place in the East Division. Cody Jamieson is four goals shy of becoming the first Knighthawk since John Grant Jr. in 2008 to reach the 40-goal plateau in a season. Grant had 47 that season. Jamieson has 31 points (14+17) in his last six games. He ranks fifth in the NLL with 81 points and is tied for fourth with 36 goals. Goalie Matt Vinc is second in the NLL with 548 stops.
Philadelphia enters the contest in second place in the East Division and has lost four straight games. Dan Dawson (5+1) and Drew Westervelt (1+4) led the Wings offense. Dawson is third in the NLL with 100 points and is second in assists with 77. He needs one point to set a Wings' single-season point record. The Wings have two players in the Top 5 in loose balls with Jeff Reynolds ranking second (151) and Brodie Merrill (140) holding down fifth. Goalie Brandon Miller is third in wins (7) and fourth in saves (519). Kevin Crowley is second in the NLL in points among rookies with 67 (35+31). Westervelt has netted a single-season best 35 goals.
The first 5,000 fans will take home a Knighthawks baseball hat. The K-Hawks will also hand out their team awards that night prior to the game. The game will be broadcast on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com. For ticket information, call (585) 454-4295 or go online to www.knighthawks.net.
