Kitchener Rangers News Release

Keli Grant scored twice for the Kitchener Rangers as they were defeated 3-2 by the Belleville Bulls on Saturday night. Curtis Meighan also earned two points with assists on each Kitchener goal.

The Bulls opened the scoring on a late power play opportunity, jumping ahead 1-0 with less than five minutes remaining in the first period. Michael Curtis picked up his seventh of the season, firing a wrist shot from the hash marks by Rangers netminder Franky Palazzese. Leading scorer Jordan Subban and Jake Worrad earned the assists on the play.

Kitchener led shots on goal 15-9 in the opening frame.

Keli Grant's second goal of the season pulled the Rangers even at the 7:55 mark of the second period. Curtis Meighan initiated the play, shoveling the puck towards the net and Grant was parked in front to slide a shot by Belleville goaltender Charlie Graham. The returning forward was appearing in his eighth game since joining the club from the Junior B Kitchener Dutchmen, where he has scored 27 goals in 28 games. Grant will also represent the Dutchmen this weekend in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League All-Star Game.

The Bulls regained their one-goal lead with 13 seconds left in the frame, making the most of the man-advantage. Stephen Silas' point shot was redirected past Palazzese with a backhand tip from captain Brendan Gaunce. His 12th of the season was also assisted by Curtis, who collected his second point of the contest.

Belleville out-shot the Rangers 13-7 in the second period.

Defenceman Jake Cardwell's sixth goal of the year lifted the Bulls to a 3-1 advantage near the midway point of the final frame. Brady Austin controlled the puck behind the net before moving it in front for the veteran rearguard. The overager has scored three for Belleville since arriving in a trade with the Ottawa 67's. Gaunce collected his second point with an assist on the play.

Kitchener cut the deficit to one goal with 3:20 remaining on the clock. Meighan carried the puck in from the blueline before connecting with Grant with a cross-ice pass in front of the net. His second of the game was also assisted by defenceman Cory Genovese.

Each team fired 14 shots on goal in the third period and were even with 36 shots each overall.
