Grandy Glaze to Finish Season in Chile
January 2, 2019 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Sudbury Five News Release
(Greater Sudbury, ON) It is with mixed emotions that the Sudbury Five announce the departure of big man Grandy Glaze as he moves on to finish the season in Chile. The North York, ON native has signed with C.D. LOS LEONES QUILPUÃÆâ° of the Liga Nacional de BÃÆ¡squetbol de Chile (LNB).
Grandy Glaze was one of the first players to be named to the Sudbury Five's inaugural roster, after his rights were acquired from the Windsor Express in exchange for those of Juan Pattillo. The 6'6" forward was an immediate fan favourite in the Sudbury community after taking part in every Sudbury Five community event since his addition to the roster in mid-October.
"From day one, Grandy has been an incredible professional and an invaluable asset to our inaugural season," said Vice-President of Basketball Operations Bob Johnston. "His dedication to the growth of the game and his engagement with fans here in the Greater Sudbury community will be dearly missed as he takes the next step in his professional career."
Glaze was enjoying one of his best seasons as a professional through the first 16 games of the 2018- 19 National Basketball League of Canada season. The Canadian departs as the league leader in rebounds per game with 11.6, while sitting sixth in field goal percentage and eleventh in total points scored, coming off of the bench in all 16 games.
"Grandy moves on to Chile as one of the best players in the NBL Canada this season," said Head Coach and General Manager Logan Stutz. "There's no doubt in my mind that Grandy would have been a favourite for Canadian of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year this season. Although it's tough to see Grandy depart, we're happy for him knowing that he's progressing his professional career and moving on to the next level."
The Sudbury Five organization would like to wish Grandy the best as he moves on to the Leones to complete the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
The Sudbury Five are back in action this Friday as they open the new year against the London Lightning. Game time is 7:05 PM. For tickets, visit www.thefive.ca or in-person at the Sudbury Community Arena Box Office.
