Sudbury Five News Release
(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) - The Sudbury FIVE announce the re-signing of Montell McRae, a 6'8 forward from Cleveland, Ohio, for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Sudbury FIVE fans got to experience Montell's play throughout the 2022-23 NBLC season. In 22 games last season, Montell averaged 9.0 points (PPG), 4.9 rebounds (RPG), and 1.0 assists (APG) per game for the FIVE.
"Montell knows Sudbury very well as he has been here awhile now," said Logan Stutz, the General Manager and Head Coach of the Sudbury FIVE. "We are expecting big things from Montell this year as a person and a player. I know the fans enjoy seeing his energetic style of play and will be happy to see him back."
Last season was Montell's first full season with the FIVE following a shortened stint during the 2020 season where Montell played one road game before the FIVE before the season came to a holt. Montell played Division 1 College Basketball at the University of Buffalo from 2017 to 2019. McRae played on the last two Buffalo Bulls teams to make the NCAA March Madness tournament, including when they had their highest seeding of #6 in 2019.
Following his collegiate career, Montell played 9-games in the G-League during the 2021-22 season, playing for the Cleveland Charge, before finding his way back to Sudbury. With a full season of FIVE basketball under his belt, McRae looks to build towards an exciting 2023-24 BSL season.
"Another day Sudbury, and another opportunity to prove everyone that we are the team to beat this season," said Montell McRae. "I can't wait to be back in front of the best fans in Canada".
The Sudbury FIVE are ready to make history and set records in the new era of the Basketball Super League. Season memberships are on sale now at the Sudbury Arena Box Office and online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets. Prices start as low as $359 + HST. FIVE fans can look forward to the season's Home Opener on December 28th, 2023, when the FIVE face off against London Lightning.
