General Manager and Head Coach Logan Stutz Named Director of Player Development for Boston College Men's Basketball

(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Five Basketball Club, in conjunction with Boston College Basketball, announce that General Manager and Head Coach, Logan Stutz has been named Director of Player Development with the Men's Basketball team. The Boston College Eagles are an NCAA Division I college basketball program that represents Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, United States. The team has competed in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) since 2005. ACC teams and basketball athletes have claimed dozens of national championships throughout the conference's history, with numerous elite players graduating to the NBA, the top basketball league in the world.

"Well, this is a very bittersweet moment for me and my family. We loved our time in Sudbury, we laughed here, we cried here, we lived here. We had our third daughter here and built amazing relationships along the way, we will always be attached to this city," said Stutz. "The move will not be easy, but just as I was called to Sudbury, I know I am being called to my next assignment with Boston College. I want to thank Dario Zulich, Scott Lund, Bob Johnston, and all SWSE staff for believing in me and my vision for basketball here in Sudbury. I also want to thank our fans, your support for myself and the Five was amazing from day one. In a cool way I have become one of you, a fan, and I will always support and cheer for the Sudbury Five. Thank you, Sudbury," he added.

Bob Johnston, VP of Sudbury Five basketball operations, said "while the Sudbury Five organization was disappointed by the news of losing coach Stutz to the NCAA, we as an organization were also extremely pleased that his success with the Sudbury Five has catapulted his career to greater heights. This is a tremendous opportunity for Logan and there is no doubt that they will be extremely pleased with what coach Stutz can offer their basketball program. Logan's basketball knowledge and motivation to achieve success are some of his greatest attributes, but off the court Logan is a quality individual as well. I personally have really enjoyed the time I have spent with Logan over the past few years."

From its inception into the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) in 2018 the Sudbury Five organization has had a goal to establish itself as the premiere team in the entire league. With the strong support of owner Dario Zulich, and CEO, Scott Lund, the Sudbury Five has operated the team as a first- class organization. The team's reputation over the past few seasons has been stellar and this recognition has garnered the attention of agents, players, coaches, and the media. Most important, the local fans have endeared themselves to Sudbury's only professional sports team, and because of their tremendous support they have undoubtedly established Sudbury as one of the most desired places to play in the NBLC.

Bob Johnston said, "it is not surprising that Logan Stutz was highly recruited by other professional basketball organizations. To be honest, losing Logan is strong endorsement of our program and a testament to the fact that we are doing things right. We have to recognize and be prepared for scenarios that will see future Sudbury Five players and coaches graduate to elite professional basketball programs all over the world. After all, one of the mandates of the NBLC is to develop basketball talent."

The Sudbury Five will now turn its sights on preparing for an extremely exciting 2021-22 season. The Five will immediately start the recruitment process to replace coach Stutz and it is totally expected that there will be no shortage of interest from highly qualified professional coaches/GMs. Similar to the recruitment process that originally landed coach Stutz, the search for a new Head coach/GM will be rigorous and thorough. The club's end goal will be finding someone with similar personal attributes as coach Stutz. Without question they will have to be an experienced and knowledgeable basketball person, but they also must be willing to fully immerse themselves in our community working with stakeholders, growing grass roots youth basketball and undertaking various charitable works.

The future of Sudbury Five basketball remains bright and our relentless pursuit of building a championship team in Sudbury will soon be under the leadership of a new GM/Head Coach, which will be named in the upcoming months. Stay tuned by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
