Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Clippers' bats picked up on Sunday afternoon to overshadow an otherwise good start by Adam Wilk as Columbus defeated Toledo, 8-1.

The Hens surrendered a run in the first inning courtesy of a Jose Lopez double to give the Clippers an early 1-0 lead. Toledo responded with a run in the second when Brent Dlugach hit one deep to right to score Brad Eldred before Chad Huffman made a spectacular diving catch to rob Dlugach of extra bases.

Wilk cruised until the fifth inning when a Rawley Bishop throwing error kept Columbus' chances alive. Jose Lopez capitalized with an RBI single to make it 2-1. Zach Miner came on for Wilk in the sixth and surrendered a solo homerun to Huffman, making it 3-1. Despite the loss, Wilk had a great outing, allowing one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts through five.

Toledo kept the game within reach until Miner surrendered a grand slam to Beau Mills with 2 outs in the seventh to extend Columbus' lead to 7-1. Lopez added a double off Brooks Brown in the eighth, his third of the game, to knock in one more making it 8-1.

The Hens' bats were quiet with only 5 hits, all singles by Quintin Berry, Argenis Diaz, Dlugach, Eldred and Bishop.

The game was the last of the Hens' homestand, as they travel to Charlotte tomorrow to take on the Knights for this first time this season. Fu-Te Ni is set to start for the first time since April 17th when he hit the disabled list. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Game Notes

Quintin Berry extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Brad Eldred's single was first hit since returning to Toledo after his stint in Detroit.

Eldred also stole a base, his second of the season and just the 63rd of his 12 year career.
