Grand Rapids Drive Fall Short against Undefeated Westchester, 102-90

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Floyd Mayweather is used to appearing before sold out arenas in Las Vegas.

But the world-famous boxing star was sitting at center court in the Westchester County Arena on Monday night in front of 974 fans in an NBA Development League basketball game.

Mayweather, a Grand Rapids native, watched his home-town team, the Grand Rapids Drive, fall to the Westchester Knicks, 102-90.

Westchester remains the only undefeated team in the D-League with a 6-0 record. Grand Rapids falls to 2-4.

Guard Lorenzo Brown led the Drive with 24 points, 5 steals, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Forward Devin Ebanks had another double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Henry Sims also finished with a double-double with 11 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.

Former Brigham Young star, Jimmer Fredette, made his D-League debut Monday night with Westchester. The guard scored a game-high 37 points on 12 of 17 shooting. Fredette, who was drafted by Westchester this year, has played four games in the NBA this season with the New Orleans Pelicans and 233 in his five-year NBA career.

Fredette, the 2011 Naismith Player of the Year, had a nice lob pass to Ben Strong for an alley-oop dunk in the fourth quarter.

Sims scored on a layup midway through the second quarter to snap a 29-29 tie as Grand Rapids went on a 13-2 run and led 52-45 at halftime.

Cleathony Early drained a 3-pointer with 2 minutes to go in the third quarter to give the Knicks their first lead since early in the game at 68-65. They would lead the rest of the game.

Mayweather, sporting a black leather jacket, white t-shirt and red pants, apparently is friends with Westchester forward Jordon Crawford. He was caught on camera having fun taunting the referees on a few calls. Crawford, who played at Xavier, is from Detroit and went to Communication and Media Arts High School.

Travis Trice, the former Michigan State guard, finished with 15 points for Westchester. Early had 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Grand Rapids continues a three-game road trip at Delaware at on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Drive returns home on Sunday, Dec. 6 for a 4 p.m. game.
