Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY, June 9, 2008 - Baseball is back, and with the mercury rising, the beach will hardly be the only place in Coney Island packed with people looking for some summer fun * KeySpan Park will be rocking, as well! Dan Zanes, the Grammy-winning children's recording artist, will help the Brooklyn Cyclones kick off their eighth season in style on Tuesday, June 17th at 7 PM against their crosstown rivals, the Staten Island Yankees. As part of the festivities, Zanes will be singing the National Anthem, leading fans in a rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and performing some of his most popular tunes before the game. Tickets can be purchased at 718-507-TIXX, or online at brooklyncyclones.com.
"I am thrilled to be part of the Cyclones' 2008 season opening," said Zanes, who moved to Brooklyn with his wife and daughter in the late nineties. "To bring together baseball, families and music, all with the Wonder Wheel off in the distance, just makes for another perfect day here in Brooklyn."
Throughout the eighties, Zanes served as front man for the garage band The Del Fuegos. He later forged a solo career before forming the popular children's music band Dan Zanes and Friends. Last year, his album "Catch That Train!" received a Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children.
"Dan's music really resonates with children and adults, alike," said Steve Cohen, Cyclones General Manager. "Having him on hand to help kick off our season brings a whole new level of excitement to the ball park. It is also a sign of what our fans can expect when they buy a ticket to a Cyclones game all season long."
Edgar Alfonzo will return as Cyclones manager after guiding the team to the best record in the New York-Penn League (49-25) last year, and its fourth McNamara Division title in seven seasons. As the 2008 player roster begins to take shape, visit brooklyncyclones.com for all the latest information.
The first 5,000 fans through the turnstiles on June 17th will receive a schedule magnet, presented by Pay-O-Matic. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 718-507-TIXX, or online at brooklyncyclones.com.
