Jamestown Jammers News Release
June 9, 2008- The Jamestown Jammers are looking for the Kobayashi of Jamestown.
Kobayashi, the famed competitive eater from Japan, may not make an appearance at the Jammers' first ever hot dog eating contest, but many courageous western New Yorkers will be set to show off their own skills.
The hot dog eating contest will cap off the festivities for the second annual Grand Slam Parade and Celebration scheduled for June 14 from 6-8 p.m.
Fans interested in taking part in the hot dog eating contest are encouraged to write to the Jammers with letters stating why they believe they should be chosen for the contest. The Jammers will select the 10 fans with the best letters for the competition. Fans should send their letters by e-mail to Scott Eddy, Director of Baseball Operations at scott@jamestownjammers.com.
The fan that can eat the most hot dogs in five minutes will win a Jammers replica home jersey, 2008 New Era home cap and a season ticket for the 2008 New York-Penn League season at Diethrick Park. All entrants must be 16 years of age or older to be eligible for selection.
The contest is the newest addition to the Grand Slam Parade and Celebration which will allow area youth baseball and softball players to partner with members of the 2008 Jammers team in a march down the streets of the City of Jamestown, marking the return of professional baseball to Chautauqua County.
For further information, call the Jammers offices at (716) 664-0915.
