Gow's Goal Wins It
March 15, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Reid Gow's goal from the left point with just47-seconds remaining broke a 4-4 deadlock and proved to be the game winning goal for the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday night over the Kamloops Blazers. Ten different Chiefs registered points, including Dominik Uher who added an empty netter with a second remaining to seal a 6-4 victory.
The Chiefs have two games remaining this weekend, at home versus Seattle on Friday and on the road at Tri-City Saturday, and are alive for home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
Spokane and Vancouver are tied for fourth place each with 83 points. The Giants have a home-and-home series left this weekend with the Kelowna Rockets. Vancouver owns the tie-breaker by virtue of having more wins. The two will face each other in the first round with the higher seeded team hosting four of the potential seven games.
Brenden Kichton went top shelf from the blue line to start the scoring off for Spokane. Kichton's goal at 3:19 of the first was his 15th of the year and assisted by Blake Gal and Reid Gow.
Kamloops responded with a goal at 12:51 with Bronson Maschmeyer finishing off an odd man rush to tie the game at one.
Both teams offense was on display in the second period as the two teams combined for six goals.
Kichton scored his second of the night at 0:36 of the second on a slap shot from the right face off circle. Darren Kramer scored his 22nd of the year at 6:17 putting home a rebound and Dylan Walchuk scored unassisted at 10:37.
For the Blazers Tim Bozon scored twice and Chase Souto added another for Kamloops. Boson's goals came at 6:17 and 16:51 and Souto scored at 7:32.
Both teams tightened up defensively in the third period with neither team able to beat the others netminder until Gow's slapshot to put Spokane up.
The Chiefs finished the game 1-3 on the power play and a perfect 3-3 on the penalty kill. Shots on goal favored Spokane 29-26 in front of 4530 fans at the Arena.
