
Gotham FC's 2023 NWSL Season Opens Sunday In LA

HARRISON, N.J. - A new era for Gotham FC officially begins on Sunday, March 26 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, as the New Jersey/New York-based National Women's Soccer League franchise kicks off the 2023 season on the road against Angel City FC at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. The match, which is expected to draw a crowd of more than 20,000 fans and can be watched live on Paramount+ and TSN+.
In an East-versus-West showdown that will mark the debut of Gotham FC's revamped roster, which features World Cup and Olympic champion defenders Ali Krieger (USA) and Kelley O'Hara (USA), World Cup champion midfielder Allie Long (USA), Olympic medalists Kristie Mewis (USA) and Lynn Williams (USA), key returners Ifeoma Onumonu (Nigeria National Team) and Bruninha (Brazil National Team), as well as exciting additions Yazmeen Ryan and goalkeeper Abby Smith - both new acquisitions who won last year's NWSL Championship with Portland.
Following the match both teams will each host a hybrid media availability that will be accessible to media onsite at BMO Stadium and virtually via Zoom.
Head-to-head:
The teams split their pair of matches in Angel City FC's inaugural NWSL season in 2022. Gotham FC won in LA, 1-0 on a goal by Ifeoma Onumonu in the 57th minute and six saves from goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, on May 29. Angel City won the rematch at Red Bull Arena, 3-1, on Aug. 28.
Gotham FC Debuts:
After an offseason of major signings and trades, Gotham FC has eight players looking to make their regular season debuts with the club: GK Abby Smith; defenders Kristen Edmonds and Nealy Smith (Kelley O'Hara played for the club prior to its rebranding as Gotham FC); midfielders Sinead Farrelly and Yazmeen Ryan; and forwards Svava Rós Guðmundsdóttir, Jenna Nighswonger, and Lynn Williams.
Home Opener Just One Week Away:
The highly anticipated home opener against Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle, and OL Reign is on Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Red Bull Arena. Tickets are now on sale for the home opener.
