Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) will kick start the 2nd half of the 2006-07 season with a weekend home stand as they welcome the New Mexico Scorpions and Tulsa Oilers this Friday and Saturday evening to the Cal Farley Coliseum. Through 32 games this season, the Gorillas have amassed the 2nd highest winning percentage in the Southern Conference (.547) and presently are 2nd in the Southwest Division with 35 overall standings points. The Gorillas trail 1st place Odessa by just one point and still possess 2 games-in-hand over the Jackalopes.
CHL action resumes tomorrow following the All-Star break and the Gorillas open the 2nd half of the season against the same opponent they opened the first half, the New Mexico Scorpions. The Scorpions are currently in a tie for 3rd in the Southwest Division as they're knotted at 33 standings points with the Arizona Sundogs. This will be the 3rd of 7 meetings this season between Amarillo and New Mexico and just the first at the Cal Farley Coliseum since these two teams opened the 2006-07 season back on October 21st. The Gorillas took that meeting 5-2 but dropped the most recently gathering 5-3 at the Santa Ana Star Center on January 5th.
The Gorillas then remain home to battle the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night for the 4th and final time this season. The Apes are just 1-2 against the 4th place team in the Northeast Division but are coming off a 7-5 victory over Tulsa back on December 29th when the Gorillas registered their highest goal total of the season.
Both games begin at 7:05 this weekend with the doors to the Cal Farley Coliseum opening at 6 P.M.
