
Gorillas prepare for busy labor day weekend

AMARILLO, TX â The Amarillo Gorillas staff and some players will be busy with activities in the community this Labor Day Weekend.
Members of the staff, the local ownership group, as well as defenseman Eric Andersen will be answering phones on Monday at noon for the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon in the Center Court of Westgate Mall. This will be the third consecutive year that the will be taking part in the annual event to raise money for the MDA. The Gorillas will man the phones beginning at noon on Monday for an hour.
The Gorillas also help the MDA with the annual Bowl-a-thon which will be back in January of 2005.
Later on Monday afternoon, Gorillas forward Henry Kuster will be hosting Blacktop Hockey at The Discover Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the Labor Day festival. Blacktop Hockey will be located on Streit Drive and children are encouraged to come down and play street hockey. There is no charge, but parents must fill out a waiver in order for their child to participate. This marks the second straight year that the Gorillas will be at the Discovery Center Festival.
The Amarillo Gorillas are gearing up for their third year in the Central Hockey League hoping to build on the success of the past two seasons.
