Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are pleased to announce the signing of left winger Brett Draney. Draney, 25, enters his 6th season of professional hockey and comes to the Gorillas with 56 games of American Hockey League (AHL) experience on his resume. Draney was originally selected by the Dallas Stars in the 6th round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and spent last season overseas in France suiting up for 18 games with Grenoble, registering 10 goals and 13 assists during that time.
Draney began his professional career in 2001 with the Utah Grizzlies of the AHL. The Merritt, British Columbia native played just 11 games that season, including 5 playoff games, and tallied 1 goal and 2 assists during his first stint in Utah. Draney returned to the Grizzlies in 2002-03 and 2003-04 and registered 2 goals and 2 assists in 49 combined games over that 2-year span. Draney has also spent extensive time in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) with the Lexington Men O'War, Idaho Steelheads and San Diego Gulls. The 6'1", 195 left winger's best season came in 2004-05 when he notched 18 goals and 32 assists in time with the Steelheads and Gulls of the ECHL and one game with the Grizzlies of the AHL.
The acquisition of Draney has forced the Gorillas to place forward David Williams on waivers. Williams has played in all 4 games of the 2006-07 season but has yet to register a point. In 4 games the Thornhill, Ontario native has a +/- rating of -1.
The Gorillas are back in action with a pair of home games this weekend. First on Friday, Amarillo plays host to the 2-2 Corpus Christi Rayz and then the currently undefeated Youngstown Steelhounds come to town for a Saturday evening affair. Both games are set for 7 P.M. start times and the doors will open promptly at 6 both nights. The Gorillas will also be out and about in the community tomorrow afternoon (Thursday Nov. 2nd) as Brent Hughes, Rich Hansen and David Silverstone will be at WalMart at 3700 I-40 East from 5-7 P.M. for an autograph signing in conjunction with Coca-Cola.
