IMPORTANT MATCH-UP: Two out of the next three games for the Amarillo Gorillas are against Northwest Division rivals starting with tonight's match-up with the Tulsa Oilers. This is the third meeting of the season between the teams and Tulsa has outscored the Gorillas 3-0 (1-0 & 2-0) with Rod Branch picking up the shutout. The Gorillas then face the Oklahoma City Blazers on Tuesday night in another game that has significant implications on the CHL Playoff picture. Face off for Tuesday's affair is 7 p.m.
GAME REWIND: The Amarillo Gorillas fired four third period goals and went on to a 5-1 drubbing of the New Mexico Scorpions on Friday night at The Jungle. Dorian Anneck, Derek Hahn, Brian Pellerin, Ben Gustavson, and Henry Duster tallied goals for Amarillo. It was the Gorillas 10th win on home ice this season and are 10-2 in their last 12 games dating back to December 1.
The Tulsa Oilers were beaten by state-rival Oklahoma City Blazers 7-3. the Blazers broke open a close game with three third-period goals. The Oilers are 0-5-0 in their last five and 2-6-2 in their last 10 games.
CHL STATS PACK: When the Gorillas score the first goal of the game they are 7-0 this season. The Gorillas have a better goals for/goals against ratio at home versus on the road with a +6 compared to a +2.
Ben Gustavson has been red hot for the Gorillas in his last 10 games with three goals and 12 assists for 15 points. Dorian Anneck and rookie forward Derek Hahn have been the most productive goal scoring tandem with six goals each in their last 10 games.
ALL-STAR GAME NON-STARTERS: The Central Hockey League will announce the rest of the non-starters on Wednesday, Jan. 8 for the Dodge 2003 All-Star Classic at the Fabulous Ford Center in Oklahoma City on January 23. UPCOMING SCHEDULE: Immediately following tonight's game, the Gorillas will board their bus and head to El Paso where they will face the Buzzards at 3 p.m. (MST) 4 p.m. (CST). Fans can tune in to 1550 Am The Zone beginning with the Pizza Hut Amarillo Gorillas Warm Up Show at 3:40 p.m. This radio station change is due to the National Football League playoffs.
