Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers' Alan Gordon and Gavin Wilkinson have been named to the A-League Team of the Week in recognition of their play in the Timbers' 2-1 season-opening win over Seattle, it was announced Tuesday.
Gordon, 22, scored his first goal as a Timber less than 30 seconds into his professional career in Saturday's 2-1 win.
The rookie from Oregon State took an elbow to the eye in the first half that would later require stitches and returned to the game shortly thereafter, continuing his aggressive play throughout the match.
Wilkinson was also on the receiving end of a physically played match Saturday, taking two shots to the head indicative of his solid defensive play against the Sounders.
Wilkinson, a native of New Zealand playing in his fourth year with the Timbers, was named to the Team of the Week last season in Week 18.
