The Clippers announced that shortstop Erik Gonzalez was named as 2016 Clipper of the Year. The 24-year-old shortstop led the team in doubles (31), stolen bases (12), while hitting a solid .296 in just 104 games. The Dominican Republic native is recognized as one of the outstanding fielding shortstops in all of baseball, also showed his versatility by also playing second base, third base, center field and right field.

Erik starred in the Triple-A All-Star Game and was promoted to the Indians on July 14, 2016. and appeared in 21 games for the Tribe hitting .313.

Columbus got their first look at Gonzalez midway through the 2015 season when he replaced Francisco Lindor after his mid season call up. Erik was a key player on the 2015 and 2016 Western Division Champions.
