(Orem, UT) - Jenrry Gonzalez and Matt Leon combined for nine shutout innings, helping the Orem Owlz (25-40) beat the Rocky Mountain Vibes (29-37) 3-0 in the series opener on Wednesday night at the Home of the Owlz.
Jeremiah Jackson got the scoring started on Wednesday, smacking a lead off home run in the first inning, giving the Owlz a 1-0 lead. The homer was Jackson's 22nd of the season, one shy of the league record of 23.
Owlz starter Jenrry Gonzalez mowed through the Vibes lineup, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings, striking out eight batters in his Pioneer League debut.
Brandon White added to the Owlz lead in the fifth inning by blasting his second homer of the season. Cristian Gomez later tripled and then scored when Jackson singled into left, extendingthe Owlz lead to 3-0.
Matt Leon (4-3) picked up from where Gonzalez left off, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings to earn the win. Vibes' starter Karsen Lindell (1-2) allowed just one run but was charged with the loss. The Owlz and the Vibes continue the series on Thursday night at 6:35.
