Osprey Score Four in 8th for 7-4 Win over Billings

MISSOULA, MT - Coming from behind with four runs in the 8th , the Missoula Osprey (36-31, 16-13) defeated Billings (36-31, 21-8), 7-3, at Ogren Park at Allegiance Field Wednesday night. First- baseman Spencer Brickhouse homered twice, leading the O' s offense with a 2-4 night.

Osprey pitchers combined for ten strikeouts against the Mustangs' offense, with Missoula's right- handed starter Tyler Poulin waiving five. Jhonny Valdez (W, 2-1) held the Mustangs off the scoreboard for an inning and a third, not allowing a hit in the 7th and 8th .

The middle of the O's order, between Brickhouse, Axel Andueza, Wilderd Patino, and Cesar Garcia combined for a 5-15 night with five RBI. Missoula's win snapped a five-game Billings win streak.

With a 3-3 tie into the top of the 7th , the Mustangs reclaimed a one-run lead with a sacrifice fly.

Bringing the top of the order to the plate in the 8th , the Osprey scored four runs on three hits.

In the leadoff spot, second baseman Cam Coursey reached on a throwing error from Billings' pitcher Jake Stevenson. In the throw to first, Coursey collided with Leo Seminati, leaving the game with an apparent head injury. Jose Curpa and Tristen Carranza followed with a hit and a walk, loading up the bases.

Following a Brickhouse strikeout, Andueza singled down the third-base line, and a throwing error to 1st scored two. Patino brought in Carranza from 3rd on a sacrifice fly to center, and a two-out, RBI single scored Andueza from 3rd to cap a four-run frame.

Mitchell Stumpo (S, 5) nailed down the 9th with a strikeout, capping the Osprey comeback to gain a game back in the race for first in the North.

The Osprey win sets up a rubber match for Thursday against Billings, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm MDT. Thursday night is Indigenous Heritage Night at Ogren Park, celebrating indigenous heritage in Western Montana with foods, singers, drummers, dancers, games, vendors & more.
