
Gomez Promoted To Mets

New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The New York Mets have promoted Zephyr centerfielder Carlos Gomez. He will join the Mets and start in rightfield on Sunday at Shea Stadium against the Brewers.
The Z's outfielder leads the PCL with 17 stolen bases and had played in every game for New Orleans. In 36 games he was batting .286 with two home runs.
In 2006, Gomez was the co-winner of the Sterling Award, emblematic of the Most Valuable Player at Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern League. Gomez finished second in the EL with 41 stolen bases and fifth with eight triples. He also batted .281 (121-430) with 53 runs scored, 24 doubles, seven home runs and 48 RBIs with Binghamton.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder was signed by New York as a non-drafted free agent on July 27, 2002.
Pitcher Mike Pelfrey has been assigned to the Zephyrs and will join the team this week.
