Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

They were named to play in the mid-season Northern League All-Star Game and they've now been named to the post-season Northern League All-Star Team.

Pitcher Ace Walker, second baseman Josh Asanovich and designated hitter Juan Diaz joined their NL peers today as the league announced its end-of-season all-stars. For Walker and Asanovich, it's a first, while it's the second nod for Diaz.

In his second year with the Goldeyes, Walker finished 12-6 with a 3.31 earned run average. His wins and franchise-record six complete games led the league while his ERA and franchise record-tying 149 innings pitched were good for second. He also picked up two NL Player of the Week awards as well as Rawlings NL Pitcher of the Month honours for June.

In his first year with the Goldeyes, Asanovich batted .285 with nine home runs and 32 runs batted in. Those nine home runs were a career-best, as were his .382 on-base and .470 slugging percentages, while he committed just eight errors in 364 total chances for a .978 fielding percentage.

Also in his first year with the Goldeyes, Diaz batted .317 with 29 home runs and a franchise-record 90 RBIs. Those 29 home runs were a league-best and tied a franchise record while the 90 RBIs were a personal best. Twice named NL Player of the Week, Diaz also led the league in slugging percentage (.598) and total bases (217) and his 95 games joined four others for most in the league. He previously earned all-star honours in 2007 while with Joliet.

Joining the three Goldeyes on the all-star team were five players from Fargo-Moorhead and one each from Gary, Joliet and Kansas City.
