WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired right-handed pitcher Marcus Crescentini from the Kansas City T-Bones on Sunday in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
Crescentini (pronounced kress-ehn-TEE-nee) was 5-0 with one save and a 1.32 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the T-Bones last season, helping them win the American Association championship. The Tampa, Florida native struck out 36 and walked 17 in 27.1 innings pitched. Crescentini did not allow a run in four postseason appearances, and picked up the win in relief in the clinching Game Four of the American Association Championship Series on September 15th versus St. Paul. The 26-year-old right-hander began last season in the Miami Marlins' organization where he combined for a 3.95 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 27.1 innings for the High-A Florida State League's Jupiter Hammerheads and the Double-A Southern League's Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
Crescentini was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 26th round in 2015 out of Missouri Baptist University (St. Louis, Missouri). The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Crescentini is in his fifth season of professional baseball, and is 12-11 lifetime with 21 saves and a 3.24 ERA in 153 appearances, all of them in relief. Crescentini has struck out 31 percent of his career batters faced, while averaging 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings.
