Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

It was an offer that was too good for Kris Cox to refuse.

Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Hal Lanier announced this afternoon that the 23-year-old outfielder has been invited to training camp following his performance today at the club's annual open tryout.

More than 30 players took the field for the four-and-a-half hour session. The majority were from Manitoba, but others came in from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario as well as North Dakota and even as far as Japan.

In Cox, the Goldeyes get a four-year college player from Denver with Canadian citizenship, as his father is from British Columbia.

Following three years at the University of Mississippi, Cox transferred to the University of Southern California for his senior year, where he helped the Trojans reach the Stanford Super Regional. He will be one of five outfielders in camp when it opens next Friday.
