Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

On the strength of two home runs, the Winnipeg Goldeyes are heading home with a winning record during their latest road trip.

The Goldeyes (22-17) defeated the Sioux City Explorers (19-21) 6-3 in front of 727 spectators at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City Wednesday night.

Alan Rick opened the scoring in the third inning for Winnipeg with his first home run of the year. It was a two-run shot. After Sioux City replied with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning, Justin Bass hit a two-run dinger of his own to restore the two-run lead.

Sioux City cut the lead to 4-3 in the seventh inning, but Louis Ott would single in Wes Long and Brian Myrow would score on a Brian Joynt sac fly in the eighth inning to give Winnipeg a commanding 6-3 lead late in the game.

Bass and Ott each led Winnipeg with two hits in the game.

Goldeyes starter Isaac Hess went 5.2 innings to pick up the win, while Sioux City starter Kyle Wright takes the loss. Jamie Vermilyea pitched the ninth inning to earn his sixth save of the season.

The win gives Winnipeg a 2-1 series win in Sioux City and a 4-2 record on their six-game road trip.

Losses by the St. Paul Saints and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Wednesday night moves the Goldeyes to within half a game of first-place St. Paul in the North Division and Winnipeg passes Fargo for second place in the division.

The Goldeyes open a three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs Friday night at Shaw Park. Game time is 7 p.m. and great seats are available by visiting any Ticketmaster location, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or calling 1-855-GOLDEYE.
