WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired catcher Tanner Murphy on Thursday evening.

Murphy was claimed off waivers from the Lincoln Saltdogs, and is under contract for the 2016 season.

Murphy appeared in 14 games for the South Atlantic League's Delmarva Shorebirds (Baltimore Orioles' organization) in 2015, collecting 10 hits in 45 at bats (.222). The Phoenix, Arizona native had two RBI while adding five runs scored and two doubles.

Murphy is in his seventh year of professional baseball, and was drafted by the Orioles in the 22nd round in 2010 out of Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Arizona. In 2014, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Murphy combined for a .275 average with 11 RBI over 34 games between the Shorebirds and the New York-Penn League's Aberdeen IronBirds. For his career, Murphy has thrown out 23 percent of opposing base stealers. A left-handed batter and right-handed thrower, Murphy posted a caught stealing rate of 24 percent or higher four straight years from 2011-14.

Additionally, utility player Taylor Zeutenhorst was placed on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting him his release.

The Goldeyes' roster currently stands at 26 players. American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training.

The Goldeyes continue their exhibition schedule Friday night in the opener of a three-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones. First pitch from CommunityAmerica Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. All the action can be heard locally on 93.7 CJNU and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca

The Winnipeg Goldeyes open the 2016 regular season on May 19th at Joplin. Winnipeg's 2016 home opener is scheduled for Monday, May 30th versus the Sioux Falls Canaries.
