Joplin Blasters News Release

The Joplin Blasters provided the fans in Miami, Oklahoma with a sharp spring training performance on Thursday night, claiming a 6-0 victory over the New Jersey Black Sox. The game was played at Wardog Stadium in Miami. The win gave the Blasters the series victory over the Black Sox, after the two teams split a pair of controlled games.

Five Blasters pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout of the Black Sox, allowing just three singles in the first, third, and ninth innings. Jake Meiers was the winning pitcher for his three innings of work to start the game, while Tyler Herr was electric in his three innings, striking out six of the ten hitters he faced.

Matt Parish pitched the seventh inning, and struck out three straight hitters after walking the bases loaded. Victor Capellan and Winston Abreu closed out the game for the victorious Blasters.

The Blasters led the game from the get-go, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. Ronnie Richardson led off the frame with a single, and stole second base to move into scoring position. He plated the opening run on an RBI double by Mitch Glasser.

Joplin's lead was extended in the third inning, as the Blasters recorded a game-high three runs. A double from Juan Medina and a single by Zack Burling started the inning, and the Blasters went up 2-0 on a Will Soto sacrifice fly. After Richardson drew a walk, Glasser drove in his second run of the night on a grounder to the third baseman. Geraldo Valentin concluded the inning's scoring with a single to bring Richardson in for the second time.

Thursday's scoring concluded in the bottom of the sixth with two more Blaster runs. Glasser ended his day with a leadoff single, and was run for by Derrick Fox. Fox stole second base, and scored on Valentin's second RBI of the night, a groundout to short. With two outs in the inning, Jake Taylor drew a walk and scored after a Jesus Solorzano double and a wild pitch.

Glasser and Solorzano each recorded two hits for the Blasters to lead the team's offensive effort. Of the ten players that started, only two did not reach base at some point in the contest.

The Blasters return to Joe Becker Stadium on Friday evening, and welcome the Topeka Train Robbers of the Pecos League to Joplin for a two-game set. First pitch of the fourth spring game is set for 6:35 p.m.
