Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed right-handed pitchers Daniel Minor and Icezack Flemming on Thursday afternoon.

"I'm pleased to announce the additions of Daniel and Icezack to the club," said Goldeyes' manager Rick Forney. "Daniel was successful in the Astros' organization, and has shown the ability to fill many roles. Icezack is a hard-throwing right-hander from the Yankees' organization who is still classified as a rookie."

Minor last pitched in 2015 where he posted a 3.48 ERA in seven relief appearances for the Double-A Texas League's Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston Astros' organization). The Austin, Texas native struck out eight batters in 10.1 innings before making two appearances later in the season with the eventual American Association champion Laredo Lemurs.

2017 will be Minor's fifth season in professional baseball where the 26-year-old right-hander has experienced success both as a starting pitcher and a reliever. Minor is 20-9 (.690 winning percentage) with four saves and a 3.70 ERA as a professional in 23 starts and 64 relief outings. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Minor has struck out 194 batters against just 64 walks in 223.2 career innings pitched (3.03 strikeouts for every walk). On May 13th, 2014, Minor earned the save when the High-A California League's Lancaster JetHawks combined for a no-hitter over the Bakersfield Blaze.

Minor was originally drafted by the Astros in the ninth round in 2012 out of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (Corpus Christi, Texas). Minor was 10-3 with a 2.20 ERA during his junior season for the Islanders in 2012 while earning Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year honours. Prior to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Minor pitched two seasons at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.

Flemming (first name pronounced 'Isaac') finished with a 3.18 ERA last season for the Rookie level Appalachian League's Pulaski Yankees (New York Yankees' organization). A native of Valencia, California, Flemming fanned 13 batters in 11.1 innings pitched.

Flemming, who is a classified rookie in the American Association, was drafted by the Yankees in the 26th round in 2015 out of California State University, Los Angeles (Los Angeles, California). In two professional seasons, Flemming has struck out 46 in just 39.1 innings (10.5 strikeouts per nine innings), and has allowed only two home runs. During his senior season for the Golden Eagles in 2015, the 24-year-old Flemming was 9-2 with a 2.58 ERA in 83.2 innings.

The pair of newcomers brings the Goldeyes to 16 players under contract for the 2017 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training, which begins May 6th.
