Asheville Tourists News Release
CHARLESTON--Brandon Gold pitched the Asheville Tourists to a 3-1 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs on Friday night; a win the Tourists severely needed. Asheville had lost five straight but Gold and company made sure the skid came to an end.
Charleston's starting pitcher, Brian Keller, was fairly dominant in his six innings of work with the exception of a two-out rally the Tourists put together in the fourth inning. Colton Welker doubled to center and Keller issued back-to-back walks to load the bases. Max George singled home Welker and Jacob Bosiokovic doubled in two more. The Tourists led 3-0 after the rally.
That was more than enough run support for Gold who shined through a season-high seven innings of work. The right-hander scattered six hits and tallied seven strikeouts. His only blemish was a two-out RBI double by Charleston's Hoy Park.
It was a good thing the Tourists managed their fourth inning rally because Asheville did not put a runner on base the rest of the game. Bryan Baker and Justin Lawrence combined to pitch the last two innings for Asheville with Lawrence earning his first save of the season.
George led the way offensively with a 2-for-3 performance although the offense continued its tough sledding. The Tourists were held to a season-low four hits and struck out a season-high 14 times.
Most importantly, the win evens up their four-game series with the RiverDogs at one game apiece. Game three is scheduled for Saturday night in Charleston.
